FAQ: How can I get 'all my protein from food' like my nutritionist requires?
FAQ: My Nutritionist says NO PROTEIN DRINKS after 4 weeks. She wants me to get my protein from FOOD but I can't do it. What do I do?
I had my surgery in 2001 meaning I am far enough out of surgery where I should be able to get all my protein from food - and in theory I can. However, if I did not drink an Inspire protein drink in the morning or during the day, I would be eating all day long. It's just too much food, even for me.
It takes 10 ounces of chicken, salmon or beef, or TEN EGGS to equal 70g of protein. Think about that one. That is almost 3/4 of a pound of meat or fish and ten eggs is just crazy. Three plates of food like the one above does not get you to 70g protein a day.
This is the REASON that protein drinks are not something we do for enjoyment, it is to supplement for what we are physically unable to fit in our surgically altered stomachs.
Really clean protein drinks like Inspire ARE real food. The body makes no differentiation between an Inspire Cafe Bella protein drink and 3 ounces of chicken. None.
While I *could* technically eat 70g protein every day, it is just more convenient and comfortable for me to make up the difference with a drink. I really like myself better now that my hair has grown back and I feel fueled for my day.
Your nutritionist means well, but has her entire stomach and cannot relate to what she is asking you to do. As long as you meet reasonable protein goals, it doesn't matter how you achieve them.
